Global Citizenship and Global Health

Alana DeJoseph, producer and director of the documentary A Towering Task: The Story of the Peace Corps, will talk about global citizenship and global health through the lens of the U.S. Peace Corps. Peace Corps Volunteers have been at the forefront of global health issues since the agency was founded, from the work that early Volunteers did as doctors and nurses to the efforts in small pox eradication around the world, to mitigation work against the Covid pandemic today. Health care in a local context can be a complex theme. When shifted to a global perspective the complexities mount through cultural differences, resource constraints, and international trust or lack thereof. The Peace Corps' story provides a window into the need for citizens with a global understanding and cross-cultural skills, and the ability to learn from our history.
